Housing more than 10,000 individual specimens, the Center for Meteorite Studies is the world’s largest university-based meteorite collection. The move to a new building in 2012 offered the Center an opportunity to create a highly customized space — and custom museum cabinets — for specimen storage and display.

The vision was to not only store the collection but to also display the most striking specimens, and Viking created a number of custom museum cabinets to meet the Center’s unique requirements. The most unusual cabinets were designed to create three twelve-sided islands to complement and maximize the interior floor space. With glass shelves and interior lighting, the custom museum cabinets showcase some of the collection’s most stunning objects. Viking also provided more than 600 sturdy wooden drawers, all etched with the ASU logo on the face.

Viking provided a custom museum storage solution that created an immersive experience in which staff, researchers, and visitors are totally surrounded by extra-terrestrial material upon entering the space. This project exemplifies Viking’s ability to design custom museum cabinets for any requirement.
